Connecting Roland PC-180 midi keyboard to laptop

Hi, I'm trying to get back into music production. Rich gang download mp3. I'm trying to connect my (20 year old!) Roland PC-180 midi controller keyboard to my laptop.

To that end I've purchase a midi-usb interface cable from gear4music (this one https://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Twin-MIDI-to-USB-Interface-Cable-15m/1RPG) and plugged it into the laptop. The laptop recognises the cable and the power light comes on but the input light stays stubbornly off.

I've googled lots of threads which haven't helped so in desperation I took the keyboard into Gear4Music's shop. The guy who helped me out couldn't get it to work with my midi interface cable or a Focusrite interface, but when he plugged it into an Akai digital piano, it worked. He then said I should simply download the drivers for the keyboard. However a quick google search for PC-180 drivers turns up posts like this:
